PRESENTED BY FRESHCORP/WINK, & ALLIED MEDIA PROJECTS. SPONSORED BY CONSUMERS UNION.

The AMC's bowling & karaoke tradition continues Friday, June 18, 2010. All registered AMC participants get treated 16 lanes of unlimited bowling in the oldest active bowling alley in the U.S.: the Garden Bowl in The Majestic, 4120 Woodward Ave. We think our music should be as participatory as our media so we are also bringing you a karaoke dance party.

Distance from the McGregor Conference Center: 0.8 miles [MAP].

In the adjacent Majestc Café, we are presenting the incredible line-up of Tamar-kali, Defiance, Ohio and I, Crime. Free for AMC particpants. $8 for non-AMCers. Doors at 10PM.

Tamar-kali

Brooklyn native and hardcore-soul queen, Tamar-kali, wields her pen and guitar with equal ferocity. Her hard-rocking brand of outsider art leaps from every track on her 2005 solo EP, Geechee Goddess Hardcore Warrior Soul, enchanting you with its melody, while delivering a swift kick to the gut with its incisive emotional core. Her first full-length release, Black Bottom, packs an even harder punch as audiences are invited to gaze deeper into the recesses of this urban warrior's mind. Her tales of revolution and love may seem contradictory, but the two worlds are inextricably linked by this powerful artist who grasps for the truth in both ideals. Tamar-kali appeared in James Spooner's award-winning Afro-Punk documentary, and she was featured on OutKast's acclaimed sophomore album, ATLiens.

Defiance, Ohio

Defiance, Ohio are six kids steeped in DIY ethics and early American hardcore sentiment, yet their musical landscape rides the waves of new-grass and rootsy folk channeled through an alternative conscience and culture. Punk kids with banjoes and harmonicas, off-key vocals, barn ‘n backporch excellence. They have records out on No Idea, Plan-It-X Records, as well as numerous self-releases.

I, Crime

ALBUM RELEASE EVENT FOR SPREAD LIKE WATER/BLOCK THE SUN
The melted male/female vocals of I, Crime create a new brand of 'romantic rock' that could come only from the rust belt paradise of Detroit, Michigan. Through thoughtful lyrics and melodic songwriting, I,Crime maintains a rock edge reminiscent of late '70's L.A. Punk influences Wire and X, while sweet boy/girl harmonies earn comparisons to the smooth pyschedelica of The Raveonettes. Their upcoming full length album "Spread Like Water/ Block The Sun" was recorded by Grammy nominated Collin Dupuis, and  is to be released this summer on Detroit label, Woodbridge Records. The songs are winding, burning ballads, with fuzzy but fierce guitars, steady rhythms and bittersweet vocals that detail the thin line between love and hate, devotion and indifference.
