Amplifying the voices of those most affected by conflict

Traditional transitional justice mechanisms are inadequate and often overlook the structural realities of post-conflict communities. The concept of transformative justice promotes change that addresses the actual needs and desires of those most impacted by conflict, as perceived and articulated at the local level.

Éist aims to amplify the voices of those most affected by conflict by providing an avenue for introducing their narratives into the often-rarified discussions around rebuilding of post-conflict societies.

Éist works to create a multi-disciplinary space for the exchange of knowledge, strategies and participatory research toward ending violence in conflict and post-conflict areas with an emphasis on localized grassroots engagement. One of our primary goals is to build a community of practice that promotes first person narratives of conflict and solidarity for global justice struggles within a transformative justice framework.

Éist uses the arts to creatively engage the through participatory formats like mural painting, theater, music, and oral history. Central to the work of our organization is the desire to engage with and provide a platform for the voices of those most affected by trauma and violence, to facilitate informed and action-oriented dialogue, and to connect experiences of struggle and survival within and between communities.

We are interested in partnering with charities and community groups to develop and support grassroots initiatives focused on art/culture/media projects which are in keeping with our mission.
