Redirecting The Cultural World Map
Media City Film Festival celebrated its 20th anniversary edition in 2014. Since its inception, the festival has received more than 35,000 film entries from over 120 different nations, hosted hundreds of visiting artists and filmmakers and engaged thousands of audience members in public programs, including specially commissioned artists’ editions, gallery exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, lectures, performances and other events.
Media City also hosts residencies and commissions work through the Mobile Frames: Filmmakers in Residence Program, with more than twenty films commissioned since 2012. These programs also include screenings, and free hands-on film workshops. Made in Detroit-Windsor films have had subsequent screenings at venues including La Biennale di Venezia, Whitney Museum of American Art, and other grassroots and high-profile venues in Detroit and around the world.
