About

Spin Inc. provides instruction in DJing and electronic music production for students in the Metro Detroit area.

Our staff of music professionals cultivate the next generation of DJs and producers of all genres of music. Spin Inc. has a partnership with LoftDJ school in Santiago, Chile that is helping to develop DEMC (Detroit Electronic Music Camp) at DIME Detroit in May 2017.

Spin Inc. is committed to:

  • inspiring youth to be creative in a positive clean and safe environment away from negative and destructive influences to create positive music.
  • offering introductory and in-depth courses in DJing, electronic music production, music theory and fundamentals and offering hands-on training with the latest music technology by experienced instructors.
  • providing our students with opportunity for growth in a diverse environment and giving a space to encourage creativity.
  • creating partnership and cooperation with other schools and organizations.
  • encouraging students to take responsibility for what they create and its impact on the community.

Work

Since its creation in 2015, Spin Inc. has hosted several master classes and workshops taught by prominent Detroit musical figures such as Juan Atkins, Stacey “Hott Waxx” Hale, Scott Gordon, Ben Casey (Ableton), DJ Head and DJ Recloose. Classes began in May 2017 at DIME (Detroit Institute of Music Education) in Downtown Detroit and Submerge on E. Grand Boulevard in Midtown. A new space for Spin Inc. is also being built at the Alkebulan Village Community Center in the Eastside of Detroit.

Students of Spin Inc. learn the fundamentals of the art of DJing by exploring a range of topics including rhythm appreciation, musical theory and mixing techniques. Spin Inc. instructors teach vinyl, CDJ, Ableton Push, and Native Instruments Komplete techniques.
