AMP Blog: Allied Media Conference
We are taking a one year break from producing the AMC. The conference returns in 2020.
The AMC has been a phenomenal caterpillar, hungry and growing for two decades, but what is the butterfly that we can become? We think it will take a year in chrysalis to figure it out. This will be a year of reflection, deep-dive evaluation, research, and development – a year that includes your voice – as we plan for the return of the AMC.
Tarana Burke and Mariame Kaba talk movements, survivorship, radical community healing to open AMC2018 (VIDEO + TRANSCRIPT)
The 20th annual Allied Media Conference was the biggest yet, as we paused to look back on how far the conference has come while simultaneously visioning our futures. A warm Detroit welcome from Mama Sandra of the Hush House kicked off the AMC2018 Opening Ceremony, followed by performances from The Aadizookan and RV Mendoza, a powerful message from Siwatu Salama, and a keynote conversation between Tarana Burke, activist and founder of the #MeToo movement, and longtime AMCer Mariame Kaba, founder of Project NIA.
Thank you for joining us at the 20th annual Allied Media Conference! Over four days and nights, participants made media, developed new organizing strategies, met up with new and old friends, and partied at nighttime events. Check out the photo albums from AMC2018, taken by Detroit-based photographer Ara Howrani of Howrani Studios.
Thank you for joining us at the 20th annual Allied Media Conference, our largest AMC to date. Whether this was your first AMC or your tenth, we want to hear how it went. What worked well this year? What improvements or changes would you like to see? Please share your reflections in our feedback survey.
Welcome allied media makers to the 20th annual Allied Media Conference!
Twenty years is a long time. Twenty years is no time at all.
Look at this from one angle: it’s a swarm of full-grown butterflies. Look at it from another angle: it’s a single chrysalis, both fully alive and yet-to-be-born at once. Whether this is your first AMC or your 20th, you are right on time and the best is yet to come.
The AMC you see today is the result of hundreds who, over two decades, did work to change what this is, and were changed by it.
