The Right to Be Comfortable While Learning
• Camera optional policies, find alternative strategies for engagement
• Allow students to eat as needed
• Limit screen time
The Right to Privacy
• Do not track websites or computer usage
• Do not police student clothing or living environment
• End contracts with “school resource officers” and hire mental health professionals
The Right to a Break from Standardized Tests
• Cancel all standardized tests
• Allow teachers to be creative with curriculum and assessment
• Do not evaluate teachers or students based on these tests after the pandemic
The Right to Anti-Racist Curriculum
• Teach about Black history all year, not just in February
• Include examples of cultural resilience and strength in Black and Brown communities
• Student’s lived experiences should be the basis for curriculum development
The Right to Certified, Qualified Teachers
• Keep certified teachers employed by the district, do not outsource to online academies
• Do not cut extra curriculars like art, sports, or music
• Pay teachers a living wage, negotiate with their unions in good faith, and agree to cover additional expenses of online instruction like internet and childcare
