About

FIG members are food workers committed to total transformation of the food system, from our home in New York / Lenapehoking and beyond. We envision a food future for all people where equity, sustainability, and community control are baked into the recipe — from New York City to the Hudson Valley, from Borikén to Palestine.

Together, we work towards this vision by cultivating an ecosystem of people, food businesses, and organizations that serve as a rich soil for our activities. This ranges from hosting opportunities for learning, collaborating and skill-sharing; to mobilizing for concrete actions throughout our network.

CULTIVATE: Our relationships are our greatest resources! We make connections between food workers and businesses throughout the food system, folx on the frontlines of fighting food apartheid, and fellow travelers in social justice movements.

LEARN: We convene and create opportunities to share skills and resources with each other — from study group meetings online and offline, to workshops and trainings.

MOBILIZE: With our connections, mutual trust, and shared knowledge, we’re able to mobilize for collective change — whether in direct response to crisis (i.e. pandemic emergency food relief) or in solidarity with larger movement demands.

Currently, FIG convenes monthly Study Group gatherings for food workers, cultivating space for folx to break bread and build with industry peers, raise consciousness, study and organize around intersectional food justice and food industry issues. We also run a collaborative Food Security Program with a powerful network of partners.
