About

Her Story is a new media narrative series that looks inside the dating lives of trans & queer women as they navigate the intersections of desire & identity.

From writing, to directing, to acting, to crew, Her Story tells the stories of trans and queer individuals by trans and queer individuals, proving that you can create beautiful, universally relatable LGBTQ content without sacrificing quality or accessibility.

In Her Story, Violet and Paige have given up on love when chance encounters give them hope. Violet is drawn to Allie, a lesbian reporter who approaches her for an interview, and their attraction to one another challenges Allie’s best friend Lisa. Career-driven Paige meets James, the first man she’s considered opening up to in years. Collectively, the show portrays members of the queer community in a way that’s never been seen before.

Her Story was released in the fall of 2015.

Work

Trans women in the media have long been punchlines, killers, indications of urban grit, pathetic tragedies, and dangerous sirens. Rarely have they been complex characters who laugh, struggle, and grow, who share strength in sisterhood, who seek and find love. Her Story was created to remedy this by depicting the unique, complicated, and very human women we see in queer communities, and exploring how these women navigate the intersections of label identity and love.

By first releasing Her Story for free, it will be available to the audience that might not have access to paid networks or online subscriptions; the individual who doesn’t feel safe speaking up about their struggle; and to a community devoid of accurate and identifiable portrayals of characters and experiences in the media.

Connected Work

Speed of Joy Productions is working with TransTech Social Enterprises to create the branding and website for Her Story. TransTech economically empowers individuals in the transgender community through the use of technology.
