Print Ain’t Dead

Print Ain’t Dead is a bookstore and publishing platform focused on literary and text-based artifacts produced by Black, brown, and indigenous artists. Our literary organization and reading room are based in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston. We reach our communities of color through pop-up reading rooms, zine publishing and our low cost new and used books.

Print Ain’t Dead didn’t start off as an organization. It started off as a community-based project serving a real need in Boston- the need for more bookstores serving neighborhoods of color. At the time of Print Ain’t Dead’s conception, there was only one bookstore serving Boston’s neighborhood of color. We wanted to change that.

We started off popping up around Boston, selling low cost, new and used books by authors of color and other literary ephemera. We began publishing zines by writers of color and eventually found a home at a studio space in Hyde Park. We transformed it into a small bookstore and we’re proud of what we’ve built.

Since then, we’ve created our Black Feminist Study Hall series with Dr. Jovonna Jones, worked with the BCA and Demita Fraizer on “Combahee’s Radical Call” (a multi-modal exhibit exploring the history of Black feminism in Boston), published 5 zines and have continued to pop up to sell our discounted books around Boston.
