The GhostLight Arts Initiative

Art as a Catalyst for Change.

We endeavor to use our platform as artists to create and sustain a movement that centers artistic and media expression as a conduit for knowledge and social change. Artistic expression can do three things: show us who we were, show us who we are, and show us who we can be. We believe in the power of theatre, music, dance, and the spoken word. We believe that these practices have the power to initiate progress. We believe in Art as a Catalyst for Change.

Progress Is Impossible Without Change

Since 2011 The Helping Hands Campaign for the Arts has been dedicated to uniting artists with the community through acts of service, fundraising, and volunteerism.

Now we move boldly into a new chapter as we endeavor to use our platform as artists to create and sustain a movement that honors the depth of knowledge inherent to artistic expression.  Our current projects includes documentary film production and arts educational programming.

And, in partnership with our sister company (GhostLight Productions) we are proud to present the second annual Obsidian Theatre Festival.  OTF is an exciting celebration of black theatrical voices, and The GhostLight Arts Initiative is proud to offer a series of educational classes and resources to students across the country.

The GhostLight Arts Initiative is thrilled to partner with our sister company GhostLight Productions, and Nicely Theatre Group for The Obsidian Theatre Festival 2022 (OTF).

The Obsidian Theatre Festival is an exciting celebration of the theatrical arts.  Featuring the work of prolific emerging Black voices, this festival illuminates the rich diversity of the African American experience. Produced in the city of Detroit, by Detroiters, and featuring playwrights from across the world—we bring together a powerful cast, stories and content to entertain, educate and provoke thoughtful discourse among a broad theatrical audience.  As part of this event GLAI is offering educational classes and resources to students from across the country.  From master classes in Acting and Vocal Performance, to apprenticeships in Theatre Management and Business, we are committed to offering these resources free of charge to students who have traditionally been marginalized.  We need your help to continue this amazing work, and provide a career pathway for youth in the performing arts.
