Xi’im Ek Balam

Xi’im Ek Balam is a decolonial peace futures think tank. We specialize in indigenous and arts based research, site specific pilot projects, and cultural intervention strategies. Our initiatives center liberated world building to imagine and manifest more harmonious and sustainable outcomes for the future of Planet Earth.

Our work has been supported by the Soros Open Society Foundation Land, Art and Memory Fellowship and by the Rockefeller Art for Justice initiative.

Our current project, Jaguar Song, is a short film about the intertribal peace center we are creating in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The film premiered at the Stellenbosch Triennial in Cape Town South Africa (2025).

Flower World, is our initiative to build an ecovillage at the US/ Mexico border that centers indigenous and land based wisdoms. The plans for this project were developed in cooperation with SMM (LA)n and Metamorphosis (TX).

Making Peace is our forthcoming manual on creating liberated timelines in the midst of deep social transition. The text will be informed by interviews with people impacted by the carceral system. A fellowship program for communities of color will follow the launch of the written curriculum and will result in the creation of 6 community based art works in regions with disproportionately high rates of incarceration.
