“I’m grateful to black moms every single day, every minute of every day for the work you all do.”
-Andrea Ritchie
Dani McClain and Andrea Ritchie discuss the struggles that black mothers are facing during 2020, a year when COVID-19 and police violence are at the forefront of the conversation, and the need to provide black mothers with the same support and nurturing that they have given out for so long. Dani explains how children and teens have become much more aware of police violence due to technology, and black parents have had to juggle the need for important conversations about police violence with the desire to preserve their children’s mental and emotional well-being. Andrea talks about the role of mothers as essential workers, as well as the importance of lifting up black mothers who shape public policy and community organizing toward liberation.
