AMP CAMP 2014: Reflections on the purpose and practice of creativity in Detroit (VIDEO)
Words by AMP Camp
As Winter descends on Detroit, we’re excited to share this video of AMP Camp 2014, a transformative Summer retreat for Detroit artist-educators.
Allied Media Projects hosted AMP Camp this past August on the shores of Lake Michigan. AMP Camp was made possible with the support of an award from the Knight Arts Challenge.
Our goal was simple: to nurture creativity in those who nurture creativity in others. The incredible group that participated in AMP CAMP consisted of photographers, filmmakers, DJs, violinists, fiber-sculptors, taxidermists, painters, poets, dancers, and more. They work in Detroit Public Schools, arts-integration non-profits, out-of-school programs, community centers and community colleges.
We filmed the experience and made a video which captures some of the ideas, energy, and practices that we cultivated at AMP CAMP, and that now circulate in classrooms and community learning spaces throughout our city.
