Allied Media Projects seeks a Development Associate to join our team to support the critical work of fundraising and sustainability.
We are looking for a Development Associate who is interested in growing their fundraising skills and passionate about the work of generating resources to support art, media, and technology projects working for social change. The Development Associate will receive dedicated training and support from AMP’s Executive Director to develop skills in grantwriting and program design.
This position is full time and based in Detroit, Michigan. The deadline to apply is July 25, 2016 at Midnight EST. The target start date for this position is August 15, 2016.

About AMP
AMP has two core initiatives: the Allied Media Conference and the Sponsored Projects program.
Held every summer in Detroit, the Allied Media Conference brings together a vibrant and diverse community of people using media to incite change. The conference is created each year through a participatory design process and features over 300 hands-on workshops, film screenings, Detroit tours, art and music events. Over 2,000 people attended the 18th annual Allied Media Conference in June of 2016.
AMP’s Sponsored Projects program offers support to social justice-oriented art, media, and technology projects in the form of: fiscal sponsorship, project planning and management, communications strategy, and fundraising. The network of AMP sponsored projects is growing, with over three dozen active projects at the time of this posting.
About the Development Associate Position
The Development Associate will work closely with the Executive Director and the Director of AMP’s Sponsored Projects Program to support fundraising efforts on behalf of AMP, the Allied Media Conference, and AMP’s network of Sponsored Projects.
The Development Associate is responsible for:
- Compiling content for grant proposals and reports. This may include:
- pulling language from previous grants
- conducting interviews with project leaders
- compiling data and selecting quotes from program evaluations
- compiling photos, videos, and other supplemental materials.
- Managing a grants tracking system and calendar to ensure timely delivery of proposals, reports, and other documents.
- Receiving training from AMP’s Executive Director in grantwriting and editing, development, and program design.
- Receiving training from AMP’s Chief Operating Officer in budget development and financial reporting.
- Assisting AMP’s Executive Director in designing and implementing fundraising strategies for the organization as a whole, for the Allied Media Conference, and for each AMP Sponsored Project with the goal of increased immediate-term revenue and long-term sustainability.
- Assisting with trainings and consultations in grassroots fundraising strategy to be shared with volunteer coordinators of the Allied Media Conference, and with leaders of AMP’s sponsored projects.
- Assisting with the development of and/or leading the implementation of individual donor and sustainer campaigns, and crowdfunding campaigns.
- Assisting with the sponsorship program for the Allied Media Conference, or other sponsorship programs based on small business and corporate contributions.

Skills and Experience (required)

- Passion for generating resources to support media-based organizing for social justice
Skills and Experience (preferred)
- Experience working in and designing community-based non-profit programs
- Storytelling experience (journalistic, creative, or other) and ability to enhance storytelling with statistics, rich media, and direct quotes
- Experience with grantwriting and/or grassroots fundraising
- Experience as a grassroots fundraiser with the ability to train others in these skills
- Familiarity with AMP’s work. Allied Media Projects’ diverse range of programming works at the intersection of media arts, transformative education, community technology, and social justice. The ideal candidate has specific knowledge in at least one of these fields and interest and capacity to quickly learn about those fields in which they may not be as familiar.
