“Spinathon” Fundraiser
Spin Inc. is hosting a 24 hour online “Spinathon” on Saturday, April 29th at 12pm. The event will be livestreamed on www.spininc.info and will feature a DJ line-up including DJ Jungle, Charivari DJs and students mentored by Stacey Hale. “We have some of the best DJs here in Detroit,” says Ron Johnson, founder of Spin Inc. “The Spinathon is a platform to showcase that Detroit talent, and support up and coming talent.”
The Spinathon will raise funds for Spin Inc. to build out their new space in Midtown, as well as sponsor 7-10 youth for a summer camp at two locations on the east and west side of Detroit. The event coincides with the launch of a crowdfunding campaign to support Spin Inc.’s DJ classes, and the Detroit Electronic Music Camp, a two-week comprehensive DJ training taking place at DIME Detroit from May 15-27th.
“Through our classes and summer camps, youth can explore different career paths such as developing software and hardware, scoring films, making music for videogames, and radio editing,” says Johnson. “It’s not just for aspiring DJs – our goal is to showcase the range of different creative career paths you can follow with music and sound production skills.”
Spin Inc. was founded by Juan Atkins and Ron Johnson (DJ Jungle) and recently became a sponsored project of Allied Media Projects.
Spin Inc. classes are held at DIME (Detroit Institute of Music Education) in Downtown Detroit, and at Submerge on E. Grand Boulevard in Midtown.
