AMP Seeds 2023 Accessibility Statement
Words by Ani Grigorian, Disability Access Consulting Manager
General Event Information:
After spending the last 3 years online, our Detroit community has expressed wants and wishes to return to in person programming. At this time, we are unable to provide fully hybrid events and will instead share a recap video on our YouTube channel highlighting the joy and wisdom shared during each session. We have found that our audience most enjoys experiencing our content during their free time.
All events are free and open to the public. Non-alcoholic light refreshments and water will be served. At this time, childcare is not available.
Access Coordinator: We will have an accessibility coordinator, Ani, on site to assist guests navigate the space as they need. She will be wearing a large blue button with “Access”, and have a phone number posted around the site. For additional accessibility requests, questions, and feedback during this event series, please contact Ani at Ani@DetroitDisabilityPower.org. We will do our best to guarantee accessibility requests within two weeks of the event.
Language Access: The majority of programming will be done in English. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available at each event. Seating nearest to the interpreters will be reserved for people using ASL. All presenters and speakers use microphones, and a mic runner will ensure the audience uses microphones while engaging as well.
Scent-Free Policy: The LOVE building is cleaned using scent-free cleaners and scent-free soaps are available in each restroom. We ask that visitors refrain from using strongly scented products and perfumes that may trigger allergies, chemical sensitive reactions, asthma and more.
COVID-19 & Masks: LOVE Building guests are asked to wear a mask except when eating or drinking.
About the LOVE Building: The program will be held in the LOVE Building’s community room on the first floor of the building. There are no steps to enter, and the building has air conditioning. Gender neutral single stall, accessible restrooms are available on the first floor near the program room. Natural and LED lighting brighten the space. Visit LOVE Building’s website for more information.
Bus: The Grand River Bus #3 stops at Grand River & Hancock directly in front of the building. At this time this stop does not have a bus shelter.
Parking: 2 accessible parking spaces are available on the east side of the building, and 1 van accessible space is available on the west side. Non-accessible parking is also available on either side of the building. Please be careful not to disturb neighbors when parking along the side streets.
Seating: If at any time you need assistance finding the best seat for you, please find Ani the Accessibility Coordinator, or alert any staff who can assist. A mix of seating including solid stacking chairs and upholstered seating will be set up audience style. Some seating will be reserved as “priority seating” in sight of interpreters and near speakers. We will keep some easy access spaces clear for people using wheelchairs.
