Everything to know about the in-person component of this year’s conference!
We’re excited to return to some in person content for our community here in Detroit! Here’s what you need to know about the in-person AMC for Detroiters:
Where will the AMC be held in Detroit?
Whereas past Detroit based AMCs were located on Wayne State’s campus, this year’s conference footprint engages multiple areas of the city. We’re excited to lean into this new possibility and know this will expand who has access to the life-affirming and transformative content the AMC offers.
AMC2022 venues and locations include:
- Marygrove College (now known as the Marygrove Conservancy)
- 8425 W McNichols Rd
- Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MoCAD)
- 4454 Woodward Ave
- Eastern Market (Detroit Distillery)
- 2462 Riopelle
- Feedom Freedom Farm
- 866 Manistique St
Why Marygrove College?
Detroiters asked that we consider deprioritizing the “midtown” and “downtown” areas which often render themselves inaccessible due to the systemic erasures caused by gentrification. This year we’re excited to work with Marygrove College, in Detroit’s University District to host plenaries and our opening and closing ceremonies.
AMC will also offer additional resource areas at Marygrove like Childcare, a youth arts space, and community care support during conference offerings.
What’s happening in person?
Ceremonies
AMC2022 will feature an Opening Ceremony to take place Thursday evening, the first day of the conference, and a Closing Ceremony to take place Sunday evening, the last day of the conference.
Plenaries
AMC2022 will feature four (4) plenaries produced live in Detroit as part of the in-person convening. A plenary is a lecture or panel presented each day for a large audience of AMC participants. Each plenary center’s critical conversations with some of our network’s most dynamic organizers and artists making media for liberation.
Plenaries will be live-streamed to online participants and will include active engagement via AMC’s digital platforms (phone app / online platforms).

I’m a Detroiter, will I need to register for the AMC to attend in person events?
If you plan to attend the AMC in person as a Detroiter we recommend that you register for the conference. Registering for the conference gives us a sense of how many participants we can expect to attend our events. AMC offers a 20% discount for Detroiters who register for the conference and will have a limited number of seats available for walk up participants.
We’re excited for this iteration of the conference and look forward to seeing our Detroit community in person June 30th – July 3rd!
